St Columba at Solway College

The long held dream of the Solway College Old Girls’ Association for a permanent chapel to be established was finally realised in 1996 with the opening and dedication of St Columba Church at Solway.

This church, formerly sited at Mangamahoe, and designed by the well known Wellington Diocese church architect Frederick de Jersey Clere, was fully restored by the SCOGA with the assistance of funding from the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board. Saint Columba is now registered as a Category 2, New Zealand Historic Places Trust building.

In 2002 a special commemoration service involving the school and members of the Mangamahoe community was held to celebrate the centenary of St Columba.

Today the church is used regularly for school services, and is also available as a venue for weddings or other special services.
